Scots Split Twin Bill With Hawks In CCC Battle

In their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest of the young season, Gordon College Softball hosted the Hawks of Roger Williams taking game one by a score of 2-0 before dropping game two, 2-4. With the split the Fighting Scots hold a 10-8 record overall and 2-2 in CCC action.

The Scots keep it rolling in league play as they travel down the road to Endicott College on Monday, April 1 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Game One
  • It was a pitcher's duel for the first two and a half innings until Megan Jenkerson singled up the middle to bring home Laura Bieren for the game's first run in the home half of the third.
  • An inning later, pitcher Caitlin Catalanotto helped herself out at the plate, ripping a line drive homer just over the fence to give her a 2-0 lead to work with in the circle.
  • The Hawks' Tara Chatows (Jr./North Kingstown, R.I.) laced a triple to right field, putting her 60 ft from cutting the lead in half, but the junior was stranded at third. Catalanotto retired the Hawks in order in the top of the seventh to secure the 2-0 win.
Game Two
  • In the bottom of the second, Lily Rivera hit a two-bagger down the left field line to lead off the inning and later scored on a fielder's choice to put the Scots up 1-0. The Hawks matched the Scots, scoring a run in the following inning after Chatows doubled in Sydney Provencal (So./Cumberland, R.I.) to tie it up at 1-1.
  • Roger Williams added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • Gordon rallied to score a run but the Hawk's heads up defense buckled down to get the third out of the inning, taking a 4-2 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Today's result marks the third consecutive year Gordon and Roger Williams have split their DH contests.
  • Caitlin Catalanatto hit her sixth career home run in game one. The junior has hit a two home runs in each of her previous two season.
