Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Stifled On Day One Of Spring Games

Gordon College Softball opened up the 2019 campaign in Clermont, Florida today at the PFX Spring Games and were dealt a tough hand, falling to Dominican by a score of 3-1 in extra innings and ceding a shutout loss to Elizabethtown by an 8-0 run-rule in six innings.

The Fighting Scots look to have a short memory as they play another pair of games against Smith at 2 p.m. and Carroll at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Game One
  • Sophomore Kristen Brown drove in teammate Megan Jenkerson to give Gordon an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first.
  • Neither team saw much offensive production until the Stars battled back in the top of the seventh to tie it up at 1-1, forcing the Scots to muster up a rally in the final half of the inning or force extras. But after a scoreless seventh for the Scots, they moved to international tie-breaker in the eighth.
  • Dominican's Cecilia Winters McCarthy (So./Temecula, Calif.) singled up the middle to score Katie Fredrick (Jr./Steger, Ill.) and plate the go-ahead run, and the Stars tacked on another for insurance to steal the two-run win.
Game Two
  • The Blue Jays took an early 1-0 lead after scoring in the home half of the second.
  • Jenkerson roped a pair of doubles for the blue and white to give the Scots scoring opportunities, but they were unable to string hits together to convert those opportunities into results on the scoreboard.
  • Elizabethtown then made a lot of noise in the sixth as they scored seven runs to secure the 8-0 victory in six innings of work.
Beyond The Box Score
  • With a full week's worth of action, the Scots have 10 more games in Florida before they head back to Massachusetts.
  • Gordon's Emma DuBois made her first collegiate start in game two.
