Scots Take One From Bears On Senior Day

Gordon College Softball hosted the Golden Bears from Western New England for the final Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel of the regular-season on Senior Day this afternoon, splitting the doubleheader with game one going to the Fighting Scots, 5-0, while the Bears took the second game, 6-5.

The Fighting Scots earned a play-off birth with the split and will wait on playoff pairings for next week.

Game One
  • Gordon drew first blood as Megan Jenkerson put herself on second after leading off the home half of the first with a double and later scoring off of the bat of Kristen Brown to give the Scots a one-run lead.
  • Heads up base running from Laura Bieren gave the blue and white a 2-0 lead in the fourth before the bats got hot in the fifth, stringing together three hits to score three runs to widen the gap to a 5-0 tally in favor of the Scots.
  • Caitlin Catalanatto was lights out in the circle, giving up two hits and striking out seven to silence the Golden Bears and earn the 5-0 victory.
Game Two
  • The Scots kept their bats hot going into game two, as Karissa Hatchell, and Bieren ripped back to back doubles giving the Scots an early 2-0 lead. Lily Rivera doubled home Bieren to add another to the scoreboard, giving Gordon a three-run early lead.
  • WNE's bats came alive in the fourth as the Golden Bears erupted for five runs on four hits to go on top, 5-3.
  • Gordon got one back in the bottom of the fourth as Hatchell created some miscommunication on the corners, giving Jenkerson time to race home to cut the lead to one.
  • The Golden Bears stretched their lead to two in the sixth before Gordon matched them, making it 6-5 and eventual win for the Golden Bears.
