Scots Glide Past Sharks, 5-4

Box Score Traveling into Boston for a Labor Day matchup this afternoon, Gordon College Women's Tennis bested the Simmons University Sharks by a 5-4 tally.

The Fighting Scots' No. 2 doubles duo of Emily Ontiveros and Abigail Graves secured a commanding 8-1 win over Simmons' Sarah Mariski (So./Portland, Maine) and Leah Bohis (Fr./Bath, Maine), putting their squad in the win column first. But after the Sharks' No. 1 team of Nickie Nguyen (Sr./Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) Marissa Johnson (Sr./Norwell, Mass.) registered an 8-5 win and a Scots injury necessitated a forfeit at No. 3, it was Simmons that carried a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

Despite being shorthanded, however, the Scots took care of business in singles play with No. 1 Annie Carsey winning in three over Nguyen (6-0, 5-7, 6-3), No. 3 Madison West taking a straight-set win over Mariski (6-2, 6-0), No. 4 Anna Mullane winning in straights over Bohis (6-3, 6-0), and Graves also winning a hard-fought two-setter at No. 5 over Libby Weed (Fr./Brooksville, Maine) (6-4, 7-6) for the team W.

The Scots hit the court again on Wednesday, September 4 for a 4 p.m. away contest against Johnson & Wales.
