Wildcats Edge Scots In A Nail-Biter, 5-4

Box Score Gordon College Women's Tennis team traveled to Providence, Rhode Island this afternoon to take on Johnson and Wales University. The match went down to the last set as the Wildcats took home the match point to claim the 5-4 victory over the Scots. 

The duo of Anne Carsey and Madison West captured the first point of the match in doubles beating out their opponent by a score of 8-6. The Scots would then fall in their next two sets, to give the Wildcats the 2-1 advantage going into singles play. 

The Wildcats charged through their first two double sets to bring the match to a tally of 4-1. Not to be outdone, the Scots fought their way back into the match with Emily Ontiveros heading the charge after capturing the Scots' second point of the match over opponent Kourtney Moore (So./Rosewell, Ga.) by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Teammate, Anna Mullane gritted out her tiebreaker set to steal the point from the Wildcats and bring the Scots within one point of tying the match. Abigail Graves carried on the Scots' momentum and evened the score at 4-4 after edging out Gabby Velazquez (Sr./La Ramona, D.R.) 6-4 and 7-5. The match point was decided in the final set when Katie Mason (Sr./Grafton, Mass.) beat out Meli Markarianin the tiebreaker set to solidify the 5-4 victory for the Wildcats. 

The Scots are back in action Tuesday, September 10 as they welcome Eastern Nazarene College to Brigham Athletic Center for a 4 p.m. start.
