Scots Edged On Day Three Of PFX Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On the third day of the PFX Spring Games, Gordon College Softball scored four unanswered runs in the last three innings but it wasn't enough as the Lions squeaked out the 6-4 win. In game two against a fellow Massachusetts squad in Simmons University, the Fighting Scots were defeated by a score of 7-0.

Game One:
  • Brooke Colledge (Fr./Everett, Pa.) opened up the home half of the second with a single up the middle and a batter later advanced to second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to get into scoring position. With Colledge on third, teammate Madison Lucas (Fr./Philipsburg, Pa.) ripped a single back at Gordon pitcher Mara Little who displayed her athletic ability by knocking down the hard hit ball to keep it in the infield but the Lions was able to score their first run of the game. The Lions crossed the plate once more in the inning to make it a 2-0 game after two innings.
  • In the top of fourth, Emma DuBois hit a single down the left field line before taking two after the left fielder mishandled the hot hit ball. Amanda Benner then stepped up to the plate, connecting on the first pitch of the at bat on a single up the middle. Dubois tried to make it home but a good throw from the center fielder was on the money and the Scots were kept off the board. Kali Denty got the Scots' third hit of the inning to put runners on the corners but PSU-Altoona was able to escape with the 2-0 lead.
  • PSU-Altoona continued to string together hits in the fourth to widen the gap to 6-0 in their favor.
  • With two outs, Lily Rivera sent one back up the middle bringing Arianna Ramsaran to the plate. Ramsaran put her squad on the board as the junior power hitter muscled a homer over the left field fence cutting the deficit to four runs.
  • The Scots had runners on the corners in the top of the sixth, Little ripped a liner up the middle to score Dubois and make it a three-run game.
  • In their last at bat, the Scots added another as Kristen Brown knocked in Rivera to make it 6-4 but that was the closest Gordon would get as PSU-Altoona held on for the 6-4 victory.
Game Two:
  • Both squads flashed some leather in the opening two innings to entertain the crowd with each side only recording on hit in the defensive battle.
  • In the top of the third, Lauren Del Vacchio (Sr./Murrieta, Calif.) opened things up for the Sharks when she sent a ball over the left fielder's head to land herself on third. She wouldn't advance passed third as Gordon's Little put her body on the line going full speed into the side fencing to make an incredible catch in foul ball territory to finish off the inning.
  • The Sharks and Scots each went down in order in the fourth before the Sharks began to open things up in the away half of the fifth. With two ducks on the pond, Alex Morang (So./Windham, Maine) doubled to left center to put Simmons up by one. The Sharks tacked on two more in the inning as Del Vacchio hit a sacrifice fly before Allie Mulhern (So.Westford, Mass.) sent Morang home on a single up the middle to make it 3-0 in favor of Simmons.
  • Del Vecchio continued her hot streak and blooped a single on the right field line to extend their lead to four runs. The Sharks continued to put the bat on the ball and scored four more runs to lead 7-0 which would prove to be the eventual final score.
