Panthers Sneak Past Scots To Take 5-4 Win

Box Score On the second day of Gordon College Women's Tennis' stint in Hilton Head, the Fighting Scots faced off against the Panthers of Greenville University. The Scots fell to the Panthers by a tally of 5-4 in a hard fought match.

The Panthers locked down the first two points of the match after their No 1. and No. 3 doubles beat out their counterparts to take the early 2-0 edge. However, before heading into single play, Anne Carsey and Emily Ontiveros got the Scots on the board when they won their set, 8-6, to cut the Panther's lead to 2-1.

Aura Becerra Cerinza (So./Perth, Australia) and Kelsey Finley (Jr./Rochester, Ill.) dominated their No.1 and No. 2 opponents, respectively, to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead and the possibility to secure match point. The Scots would not go down without a fight, however, as Ontiveros kept her squad alive by beating out Claudia Principal (So./Barquisimeto, Venezuela) by a tally of 6-3, 6-1. Her teammate, Madison West, then continued the fight when she won her set to make it a 4-3 match. The Panthers were then able to secure the match point in the next singles set for the eventual 5-4 victory.

The Scots are back on the court tomorrow morning as they take on Mount Union at 8:30 a.m.
