Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots, Blue Jays Duke It Out Until The Final Bell In Gordon's Season Finale

In their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in school history, the Gordon College Women's Soccer Team stepped onto Hitchcock field today at Amherst College to square off against the No. 2 ranked Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Scots lived up to their moniker, bearing grass stains all over their jerseys and battled for every second of the 90 minutes played but were eventual defeated, 3-0.

How It Happened
  • Just over one minute after the first whistle, Gordon's keeper Tori Paine was quickly challenged but made a diving save to slow down the Blue Jays' momentum. However, Johns Hopkins was able to slide one into the back netting 60 seconds later to go up, 1-0.
  • The Scots were not phased and rolled with the punches, as junior Calla Ashley raced down the field and booted a shot on goal but JHU's keeper Caitlin Hendricks was able to keep it in front to remain on top.
  • Johns Hopkins' Riley O'Toole extended the Blue Jays' lead to two with a goal at the 19:05 mark.
  • In the 36th minute, Shelby Jones nearly sent one into the back of the net with a good opportunity just outside the box, but JHU's defense tightened up, not allowing the Scots to score.
  • Gordon came out of halftime locked and loaded as the blue and white did not let the physical play of the Blue Jays' to alter their game plan. The Scots' aggressiveness and gritty play kept the high flying offense of the Blue Jays off the board despite 11 shot attempts and four corners for nearly the entire second half. JHU added another tally in the final minute to secure the 3-0 win over the Fighting Scots.
