Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Scots Bounce Back With Dominant 75-53 W Over Bison

In an afternoon matchup against the Bison of Nichols College, Gordon College Women's Basketball and the Bison had a low scoring affair for the first 20 minutes before the Fighting Scots turned the offense on in the second half to defeat the visitors by 22 points.

For Nichols, Abrianna Vazquez netted 21 points, and Isabella Nerney chipped in 11 points.

On the Scots side, Abby Vampatella nearly booked a double-double with 22 points and nine boards, Serianna Anderson added 14 points, while Cara Andreotti, Caroline Sikknik, and Caleigh Williams scored 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

How It Happened

  • Gordon was the first team to light up the scoreboard with a pair of layups from Vampatella and Anderotti in the opening few minutes.
  • The Scots and Bison were locked up at 11-all before Nichols went up by one from a freebie from the charity stripe before Andreotti hit a layup with three seconds remaining in the first to take the one-point lead.
  • With just under four minutes to go until the break, Gordon held an eight-point lead but the Bison tried to rally back with a quick three pointer from Lawrence and a layup from Ortiz to cut the deficit to three. However, the Scots got back in the driver's seat to grab a 27-21 lead at the half.
  • The Bison came out of the break hot, hitting a quick three pointer from Lawrence trimming the Scots' lead again. Vazquez continued to be a threat during Nichols short lived scoring streak, tying the game up at 30 at the 7:14 mark. The next few minutes saw a handful of lead changes before Williams pushed the Scots up by one midway through the third sparking Gordon's offense surge.
  • Gordon continued to pour it on for the remainder of the game, outscoring the Bison 27-11 in the fourth to eventually take the 75-53 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Said Head Coach Carter Shaw: "I thought we did a great job of bouncing back from last night's game.  We were much more cohesive on the defensive end of the floor and that effort and focus translated well to the offensive end.  Abby Vampatella continues to play at an incredible level and once again led us in scoring and just about every other phase of the game.  It was terrific to see five players in double figures and Caleigh Williams with a double-double.  I was very happy with our defensive effort and offensive efficiency in the fourth quarter."
  • Five Scots scored in double figures.
  • Caleigh Williams booked her first career double-double.
  • Cara Andreotti recorded a career-high 12 points.
