Scots Double Dub At The Den

Gordon College softball faced the Wentworth (WIT) Leopards this afternoon in Boston, Massachusetts where the Fighting Scots took both games to advance their overall record to 6-10.

Game One
  • After two scoreless innings from either side, Ariana Ramsaran decided to take matters into her own hands in the third when she sacrifice flied out to deep right field scoring the first run for the Scots. The Fighting Scots then tacked on another run when Kristen Brown stepped up to the plate and skyrocketed a deep double down the left field line to bring classmate Lily Rivera home making it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • Wentworth answered back in the fourth with a single shot by Ceilidh Higgins to put the Leopards on the board, shrinking the Scot's lead to one run.
  • The Fighting Scots were able to lengthen their lead in the fifth when Rivera helped herself to a solo dinger that soared over the left center fence.
  • The Scots did not settle for a two-run lead in the sixth when they exploited a fielding error in the outfield, sending two more Scots home to lengthen their lead 5-1.
  • The Leopards were not done fighting when the hot bat of Higgins sent a solo shot over left field in the bottom of the sixth. However, it was not enough to charge the rest of the Leopards' bats and the Scots ultimately took game one 5-2.
Game Two
  • The Scots came out hot in the beginning of game two when Ramsaran got Gordon going with a single to left to score the Scots' first run. Shortly after, Brown was able to drive in two RBIs with a single launched down left field giving the Scots an early 3-0 lead in the first.
  • Rivera continued her streak with another home run in the third to improve the Scots' lead to 4-0.
  • The Fighting Scots held the Leopards scoreless until the third when Alexandra Pina crossed the plate on a Scot error. However, Gordon soon got that run back when Emma Dubois scored on a passed ball.
  • Wentworth attempted to make a comeback in the sixth with a Briana Beverly double that brought three Leopards across the plate making it a one run game.
  • The score was too close for comfort in the top of the seventh, when freshman Emily Harms belted a home run over center field to bring the scots up 6-4. Brown got to business on the mound and sat down the first three batters that approached the plate to give the Scots their second win of the day.
Beyond the Box Score
  • Emily Harms locked in her first collegiate home run in game two of today's matchup.
  • The Fighting Scots square off on the diamond again tomorrow afternoon when they invite WIT to their home turf with a start time of 2 p.m.
