Scots Hit Their Stride At Rainy Suffolk Invitational

The Gordon College Men's Track and Field team battled the elements to face Nichols, Wentworth, and Suffolk at the Suffolk Invitational in Hingham, Massachusetts today.

Highlights
  • Joshua Backert beat out the competition in the 400m run as the freshman crossed the line at 50.56 which earned him a first place finish. Teammate Alex Cravens took home second place with a time of 51.77 which was a personal best for the sophomore.
  • Joseph Wasson took first in the 800m with a time of 2:10.48 which was 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
  • Connor Hall set the Gordon record in the mile with a time of 4:54.66.
  • Zachary Smith earned the win in the two mile.
  • Chase Silvia continued to own the hurdles as the junior finished the 400m hurdles in 1:00.47.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Alexander Ferris, Colin McGinn, Wasson, and Smith took home the top spot with a time of 3:47.09.
  • Joseph TIbbles, Silvia, Backert, and Alex Cravens teamed up to dominate the 1600 sprint medley (3:46.79), which was over 20 seconds ahead of Nichols.
  • Silvia's high jump distance of 1.82 again earned him a first place nod.
  • Chase Draus recorded a personal best in shot put as the senior threw 11.26m. Joseph Tibbles (discus and javelin) and Caleb Rocconi (hammer and discus) had a pair of personal bests.
  • The Fighting Scots recorded nine personal bests at the invite.
Gordon travels to Bristol, R.I. next weekend for the conference championship.
