Scots Shine At Suffolk Invitational

The Gordon College Women's Track and Field team competed against the weather and against conference foes Endicott, Suffolk, Nichols, and Wentworth today the the Suffolk Invitational in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Highlights
  • Abigail Baier continued to be a force to be reckon with in the 800m as the junior again took home the top spot with a time of 2:25.42.
  • Rookie, Rachel Brennan and Suffolk's Sydney Fogg were neck in neck in the mile, but the reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week edged Fogg out with a time of 5:26.08. Brennan's time set a new school record by eight seconds.
  • The 100m and 400m hurdles were owned by the Fighting Scots with Amanda Page claiming first in the 100h with a time of 17.83, while Emma Shearer was the clear winner in the 400h, crossing the line at the 1:08.51 mark (19 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher). Shearer wrote her name in the record books with her time, besting assistant coach and alumna Corrine Previte's record (1:09.4) which was set in 2015.
  • The 1600 sprint relay team of Page, Delaney McDonnell, Olivia Gregory, and Baier crossed the line 29 seconds ahead of Endicott's relay team at 4:30.25. The sprint relay squad beat the previous Gordon record by seven seconds (Baier and Farah were two of the four runners in that previous record).
  • In the triple jump,  McDonnell jumped 8.58m which was a personal best for the junior.
  • Alyssa Hutchinson threw a personal best in the shot put by .40m. 
  • Kewana Gooden, Hutchinson, and Shearer also surpassed their personal bests in discus.
  • Jocelyn Hammons and Abigail Wirling posted monstrous personal bests in the hammer, while Hannah Hansen also recorded a person best in javelin.
  • In total, the women's track and field team recorded 10 personal bests on the weekend.
The Scots travel to Bristol, R.I. next Saturday for the conference championship.
