Scots, Nor'easters Split In Season Finale

Gordon College Softball split with the visiting University of New England Nor'easters in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Fighting Scots ended it early in game one with an 8-0 win in six innings before the Nor'easters battled back to an 8-3 victory in the night cap.

Game One
  • Neither team was able to string enough hits together to put a run up on the board until the Fighting Scots broke it open in the home half of the third.
  • With runners on first and second, Lily Rivera hit a single to left center to put her squad up by one. Gordon got their second and third runs by way of a wild pitch and an Arianna Ramsaran sacrifice fly. Closing out the four-run inning was Laura Bieren who hit a solo shot to left center to give Gordon a comfortable 4-0 lead.
  • Emily Harms hit a single down the left field line to put runners at first and third in the bottom of the fourth. The Scots' smart base running scored their fifth run of the night thanks to a double steal.
  • Rivera opened up the bottom of the fifth with a dinger, before Emma Dubois knocked in Ramsaran to put Gordon up 7-0.
  • To close out the game early in the bottom of the sixth, Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Karissa Hatchell to score the eighth run and finish game one early, 8-0.
Game Two
  • Ramsaran put the Scots on the board first as the senior homered to straightaway center field in the top of the second. Later in the inning, Gabby Hunt hit a single up the middle to score Bieren and make it 2-0 in favor of the Scots.
  • The Nor'easters used four hits in the top of the third to score five runs to take their first lead of the game, 5-2.
  • Kristen Brown cut the deficit to two runs, as the senior hit an RBI double up the middle to make it 5-3.
  • UNE added two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-3 and eventual five-run victory.
