The Gordon College Men's Track & Field Team competed with conference members, Roger Williams, Nichols, Wentworth, and Suffolk today in Portsmouth, Rhode Island at the Conference Invitational today. The Fighting Scots impressive showing of 158 points earned them a second place finish. RWU took the top spot with a score of 194.
Highlights
- Joshua Backert earned himself a first place finish and a new Gordon record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.18. The previous Gordon record was set in 2014 (23.59). Backert continued to roll in the 400m dash with his time of 48.99 which eclipsed his previous Gordon record he set on April 10 of this year. In the triple jump, the freshman jumped 12.71m which was good enough for yet another Gordon record by .08m.Â
- Chase Silvia came in second place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.34. In the 400m hurdles, Silvia set a meet record with his time of 58.58. Silvia's 400m hurdles time broke his previous record of 58.87 which he set earlier this season (April 10). Teammate, Alexander Ferris finished second with a time of 59.83. Later, Silvia jumped 1.87m in the high jump which earned the junior first place.Â
- In the 3000m run, Zachary Smith was narrowly edged out and finished second with a time of 9:09.93.
- Joseph Tibbles, Silvia, Matthew Draper, and Alexander Ferris booked a first place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 44.67. The quad bested their previous record they set on April 25, 2021.
- Setting a meet record and another Gordon record was the 4x400m relay team of TIbbles, Silvia, Alex Cravens, and Backert rolled to a 3.25.47 finish. Gordon's previous record for the 4x400m was 3:27.25 which was set in 2014.Â
