Gordon College Director of Athletics
Jonathan Tymann, has announced the hiring ofÂ
Megan Jenkerson '19 as the next head coach of the Gordon College Softball program this morning.Â
Jenkerson began her collegiate coaching career as the assistant coach under former head softball coach Katie Woolf-Connell in the fall of 2019 before being named the interim head softball coach at Salem State University on January 27 of this year.Â
"I would first like to thank Athletic Director Jon Tymann for the privilege to work with the Gordon Softball program," said Jenkerson. "I would also like to thank my parents, Katie Woolf-Connell, and the many coaches along my softball journey who created opportunities for me to learn and grow as a coach. I am incredibly excited to come alongside this group of student-athletes. Coaching at my alma mater is something I am thrilled to do and maintaining the culture and traditions within the program will be a priority. This is a responsibility I do not take lightly, and I will strive to maintain and grow the softball program in ways that both the College and alumni can be proud of. My goal is to empower the ladies within this program and give them the tools to seek continued excellence on and off the field. When these players come in as girls, my goal would be to mentor them, so they leave as women who have deepened their faith and are strong and confident in what they pursue."
Arguably one of the most statistically decorated offensive players in Gordon Softball history, Jenkerson holds school records in career home runs (18), season hits (51), season runs (41), season home runs (10), season triples (9), and season games played (40). The third baseman and catcher was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) First Team three times and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)-All Region honors in 2017.
"I know I speak for the entire athletic department in saying that we are thrilled to welcome Megan back to Gordon," said Tymann. "Megan was an exceptional player for us during her four years on the diamond and then as the assistant to Katie Woolf-Connell upon graduation. With her passion for the game and contagious competitiveness, Megan is well prepared to lead our softball program on and off the field."
Jenkerson graduated from Gordon with a degree in recreation, sport, and wellness as well as a minor in kinesiology before obtaining her master's degree in sport and performance psychology from the University of Western States this past spring.Â
