Gordon College Women's Swimming traveled up to Standish, Maine for a double-duel meet against their hosts, the Saint Joseph's College Monks, as well as the Husson University Eagles. In a both head to head matchups today, the Fighting Scots defeated the Monks, 112-94 and lost to Husson, 145-78.
In just the second event of the afternoon,
Olivia Rose captured the top spot with a time of 36.03 in her specialty, the 50 yard breaststroke, earning the Fighting Scots positive points early. Freshman
Gina Ouellette finished in third place in the 50 yard butterfly thanks to a 32.25 time. Then, setting the pace in the 1650 freestyle was
Grace Haxhinasto who bested her time in the event by five seconds (21:42.78 at Bridgewater Invitational on December 4) with a time of 21:37.35. Adding another third place finish for the blue and white was
Janelle Maxwell whose time of 28.22 put her in the top three in the 50 yard freestyle. Shortly after in the 100 yard freestyle, Maxwell and Haxhinasto collected a two-three finish with times of 1:04.29 and 1:06.88, respectively. Continuing to be one of the top finishers in her events, Haxhinasto was the second swimmer to crash into the wall at the 6:28.02 mark in the 500 yard freestyle, which was just seven seconds behind the top swimmer. Finally, closing out the day was Rose who earned a second place finish with a time of 2:54.68 in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The Fighting Scots return to Wenham for a meet against Brandeis on Friday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
