Returning to Kanas Court this evening, Gordon College Women's Basketball hosted the Rams of Suffolk University for their sixth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game in a row and despite a fourth quarter scoring outburst by the Fighting Scots, the Rams came away with the 61-53 victory
Ami Rivera paced the Scots with 17 points and 11 rebounds,
Cara Andreotti contributed 13 points, meanwhile
Madison Wynbeek sunk 12 points while grabbing just as many rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the 2021-2022 season.
For the Rams,
Amanda DeAngelis and
Jenni-Rose DiCecco booked 18 and 17 points, respectively, as well as each adding eight steals.
How It Happened
- A. Rivera put Gordon on top early with a shot from downtown, before the Rams quickly answered back with a three from Allie Lopes to knot it up at 5-5 three minutes into the first. The Scots and Rams locked it up at 7-7, then 10-10 until Suffolk finished off the frame with the 14-10 edge.
- Andreotti opened up the second with a jumper to make it a one possession game. Michaela Kelly knocked in a pair of layups to put Gordon on top, 16-14. However, Suffolk strung together the next eight points to go on top by six points. Despite a Kate Howe jumper to cut the deficit to four, the Rams took a nine-point advantage at the half.
- Coming out of the break, the Rams widened the gap to double digits, leading by as many as 16 before the blue and white trailed by 11 going into the final quarter.
- Fifty four seconds into the fourth, Andreotti drained a three-pointer to bring the Scots within eight. Suffolk hit a pair of key shots to regain the double digit edge but the Fighting Scots began trimming the visitors' lead to just five points with three minutes to go in regulation. However, the Rams were able to hold on for the 61-53 win.
