CCC RELEASE
As announced by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) this morning, Gordon College Women's Tennis' star student-athlete,Â
Annette Kim, has been crowned the CCC Player of the Year after an outstanding 2022 season on the court. This marks the second time that Kim has been awarded a major award, as the student-athlete previously earned CCC Rookie of the Year in the spring of 2021. The junior also earned a spot on the CCC First Team-Singles list as well as teaming up with her No. 1 doubles partner,
Caroline Helmer to earn nods at Second Team-Doubles.Â
Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was held by the CCC head women's tennis coaches following the playoff seeding decisions in regular season.Â
At the No. 1 spot for singles during the regular season, the junior earned an incredible overall record of 6-1, including a tie-break set victory against the top-seeded Endicott College Gulls (7-6 (8-6), 6-3). In doubles, Kim also played in the No. 1 slot where she went 3-4 in conference action (5-6 overall). Most notably, the decorated student-athlete recently guided the Fighting Scots into playoffs after two clutch back to back singles wins against Suffolk (6-1, 6-1) and Curry (6-1, 6-4). Additionally, five of her singles wins came in straight-sets and she did not drop more than four games in any of those matches.
Meanwhile, Helmer made sure to make her name known in the CCC as the freshman went 3-3 in conference doubles action in her rookie debut season. Most recently, after Helmer and Kim overpowered Curry 8-5 in doubles, the rookie went off and recorded her first collegiate singles victory against the Colonels (6-1, 6-0), to help push the Scots into the CCC playoffs. In addition, Kim and Helmer added deciding points to the Scots' final CCC regular season victories against Suffolk as well as Curry.
Kim is the first female student-athlete who has collected the CCC Player of the Year nod during head coach
Jack Sahlman's tenure and first in 16 years (last Gordon Women's Tennis student-athlete to win was Diana Anderson in 2006).Â
The Fighting Scots wrapped up their season against the eventual runner-up, Nichols College, who ranked third at the conclusion of the regular season.Â
