Gordon College Women's Tennis hosted the Plymouth State Panthers this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex where the Fighting Scots flew over their guests, 5-4 after
Abbigail Fournier sealed the Scots' first victory with a three-set comeback win.
The Fighting Scots started off overpowering the Panthers in doubles action, as
Annette Kim and her partner
Caroline Helmer locked in the first point for Gordon with a speedy 8-2 win. After Plymouth State evened out the score, 1-1,
Abbigail Fournier and
Hannah Hovda closed off doubles with a 8-6 win to give the Scots a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Kim quickly shut out her opponent (6-0, 6-0) to lengthen the Fighting Scots' lead 3-1. The Panthers attempted to close the gap, collecting two wins in a row to tie it at three-all before Gordon's
Madison Kooyman gave the Scots their lead back after defeating her opponent 7-5, 6-3. However, the Panthers were able to grab one more win before
Abbigail Fournier secured the overall 5-4 victory for the Fighting Scots with an outstanding come-from-behind win after battled for three back and forth sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
The Fighting Scots return to the courts on Thursday, October 6 when they travel to Dudley to square up against conference rivals, Nichols College at 3:30 p.m.
