CCC RELEASE
A select few from Gordon College Women's Cross Country team competed in the DIII New England Championships which was hosted by Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where the Fighting Scots ran against the top competition in the region, facing teams such as MIT, Bates and Wellesley. Seven Scots represented Gordon in the race, with Gordon's most decorated distance runner and CCC Runner of the Year
Rachel Brennan leading the pack as the junior earned a top-10 placement after speeding through the 6k course in 22:44.9, and securing the 15th spot in the Region. Overall, the Fighting Scots earned a 15th place finish with a team time of 2:07:08, just two spots behind Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rivals Endicott College (13th), while the University of New England (UNE) landed 11th place and Suffolk took the top spot of the CCC teams with a ninth place finish after a total time of 2:01:12.Â
Brennan was not only the first Scot to cross the finish line, but the junior was also the first and only CCC player to book a top-10 finish, with the next conference competitor coming in at 26th place from UNE. Out of 243 opponents, Brennan earned 10th place with her impressive time of 22:44.9 which is a personal-best for the distance runner as her previous best was 23:19 which she ran in 2021. Her record time also bumped the junior up in the Gordon record books to the number one spot, beating out Kayla Kroning's Gordon-best record of 23:01 from her 2017 season. Additionally, Brennan's 10th place finish earned her All-Region status as the first 35 runners to cross the line collect this honor.Â
Next to cross the finish for the Fighting Scots was
Carolyn Day who landed 68th place after completing the challenging course in 24:37.4 followed by freshman Caroline Piorkowski who booked a spot in the top-100 (92nd) with a time of 25:07.8. Meanwhile,
Annabel Smith and Kim Poulos finished in tandem at the 27:18.3 and 27:20.4 mark, respectively. Elizabeth Richardson completed the race in 28:22.5 before
Anna Keyes closed out the Scots' spectacular showing with a 30:05.2 finish.
The Fighting Scots await the announcement on Sunday afternoon for an individual bid to the nationals.
