Scots Smash Records At Bowdoin Invitational

MEET RESULTS

Gordon College Men's Track & Field traveled to Brunswick, Maine to compete at the Bowdoin Invitational for their second indoor meet of 2022. The Fighting Scots made the drive worth is as the blue and white multiple Gordon College records as well as collecting a handful of first place finishes on the day.

Starting off the day making a name for himself, sophomore Joshua Backert ran the 400m in 50.77, which not only earned him a first place finish but also qualified him for DIII New England Championships, NEICAAA (New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association) Championships, and set a new Gordon record. The previous record was held by Neal Olsen whose time of 52.17 was the standard since 2014. 

In the 4x400m, Alexander Cravens, Jacob Smith, Joseph Tibbles, and Backert steamrolled past the competition, taking the top spot with a time of 3:34.64. Additionally, the quad broke a 12 year old record in the relay (Haschig, Porizky, Maloney, Noga – 3:37.04).

The Scots' expert high jumper, Chase Silvia secured a first place finish and matched his previous school record of 1.90m which he set in 2020. 

Senior Steven French also etched his name in the Gordon record books as the hurler launched the shot put 13.34m, smashing the previous record held by Zak Flowers since 2015 (12.85m). French's distance also earned the senior a top five finish.

Wrapping up the meet was Tibbles who is the first Scot ever to compete in an indoor heptathlon. The senior tallied 3395 points to set a new Gordon record. 

A select few individuals will compete in the New England Indoor Championship meet next weekend in Middlebury, Vermont before the whole team is back in action on Saturday, March 26 at the Wesleyan Spring Classic.
