Scots Shine At Wesleyan Spring Classic

MEET RESULTS

In their first outdoor meet of the season, Gordon College Men's Track and Field traveled to Middletown, Connecticut to compete in the Wesleyan Spring Classic.

In the high jump, Chase Silvia notched a sixth place finish with his mark of 1.75m. Steven French rocketed the shot put 12.59m to secure a top-ten finish (sixth place). Then, French matched his placement in the hammer throw as the senior sent the hammer 37.55m. Continuing with the throws, Caleb Rocconi recorded a distance of 29.46m to come in seventh place in discus.

Getting in the 4x100m relay before the lightning, Joseph Tibbles, Henry Lonstein, Chase Silvia, and Alexander Ferris came in fourth place after crossing the line at 45.32. Zachary Smith scooped up another top-10 finish for the Fighting Scots as the sophomore earned his seventh place finish with a time of 4:14.97, beating out a trio of teammates from New Haven who were coming up just behind him. Daniel Erikson and Silvia orchestrated a seven, eight-punch as the duo finished the 110m hurdles in 17.07 and 17.97, respectively. In the event, Erikson clipped Silvia's school record by .04 which was set a season ago (17.11) to move his name in the Gordon record books. Again putting a pair of Scots in the top-10 were Jacob Smith and Joseph Wasson in the 400m dash. J. Smith was just the third runner to cross the finish at 51.70 while Wasson earned a time of 53.15 for his eighth place finish. It wasn't until Alexander Cravens ran the 800m that the Fighting Scots secured their first top spot of the day as the sophomore blew past the competition finishing in 2:03.88. Once again filling up with top-10 finishes, Ferris and Silvia came in second and fifth place respectively thanks to times of 1:01.44 and 1:02.08 in the 400m hurdles, while Luke Hart secured the 10th spot with a time of 1:09.16.

Gordon is right back at it a week from today as the Scots travel to Medford, Mass. to compete in the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, April 2.
