Baier, Brennan Lead The Way At Silfen Invitational

MEET RESULTS

The Gordon College Women's Track & Field Team ventured to New London, Connecticut to compete side by side against more than 20 of the Northeast's top teams over the past two days.

Abigail Baier was the Fighting Scot representative in the heptathlon, recording a new school record with a total of 3537 points which earned the senior a sixth place finish in the two day competition.

Baier had her best showing on Friday in the 200m dash as the senior was the fifth student-athlete to cross the line with a time of 27.99 before coming in sixth place in the shot put after tossing a throw of 8.52m. Today, Baier had the third best long jump with a distance of 4.85m, coming in behind Bowdoin and Connecticut College. Later, Baier launched the javelin 21.84m, for a seventh place finish. Leading the pack in the 800m run, the senior blew past the competition, crossing the line a full nine seconds ahead of the next runner to take the top spot (2:27.13).

In the 400m run, rookie Amaris Goodwin was narrowly edged out of a top-10 finish, securing 11th place with a time of 1:01.03. Racing against a highly competitive field, Rachel Brennan steamrolled to a 14th place finish after shattering Gordon's 5000m record (which Brennan set almost exactly one year ago - 18:49.75) with a new time of 18:15.02.

Heading over to the field events, Abigail Wirling earned a top-10 nod in both javelin and shot put as the senior came in 10th in the javelin with a throw of 28.87m and 10th in shot put after hitting the 10.34m mark.

Qualifying for New England Championships for their efforts this past weekend were Baier in the heptathlon and Brennan in the 5000m.

The Scots head into Cambridge, Mass. a week from today, Saturday April 23  for the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT.
