In their final regular season conference game this afternoon, Gordon College Softball hosted the Hawks of Roger Williams University (RWU) for their senior day doubleheader. The Fighting Scots fell to their visitors, 5-6 in game one after a hard fought battle before flipping the script to crush the Hawks, 9-0 in five innings.
Game One
- RWU made use of their first ups, grabbing a 2-0 lead before the Scots had a chance to do damage. Although Gordon attempted to retaliate, the Hawks extended their lead to six in the second after stringing three hits together. The Fighting Scots eventually got on the board after answering back with a run thanks to a clutch two-out single from senior Gabby Hunt to score classmate Emma DuBois (1-6).Â
- Mara Little held the Hawks to just two hits in the remainder of the game, meanwhile, Gordon's Karissa Hatchell got the Scots rolling offensively with a two-run rope to right center to bring her squad within three (3-6). The next batter up, Hunt added another RBI to the stat sheet with a sacrifice fly moments before Hatchell took advantage of an open home plate to tag up on a foul out to first base, making it a one-run game (5-6). However, the Fighting Scots' late rally wasn't enough to surpass their visitors, taking the eventual loss.Â
Game Two
- Arianna Ramsaran started off the game by launching a two-run homer to give the Scots an early 2-0 advantage. It wasn't until the bottom of the third when the Fighting Scots lengthened their lead to five after a trio of hits off the bats of Isabella Rivera, Ramsaran, and Ami Rivera.Â
- Starting pitcher, Sierra Ricci shutout the side for the fourth time in a row before Lily Rivera rocketed a two RBI base hit to left center to bring the score to 7-0. In the fifth, DuBois decided to end it early after crushing her third home run of the season to walk off with the dominant 9-0 victory.Â
Beyond The Box Score
- Sierra Ricci recorded her sixth shutout of the season, adding to the record she previously broke in yesterday's matchup against Curry. Along with the shutout win, Ricci pitched a one-hitter in five innings of work in game two.Â
- Emma DuBois recorded her first career walk-off homer in game two.Â
- Before the games, the Fighting Scots honored seniors Emma DuBois and Gabby Hunt for their final regular season home game.
