MEET RESULTS
The Gordon College Track & Field team hosted the Gordon Spring Invitational where a total of nine teams competed at the Brigham Athletic Complex today. The Fighting Scots finished with 149 points to take home the crown.
Opening up the day was
Wesley Marquardt who came in second place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:12.08. In a neck and neck race in the 1500m,
Zachary Smith booked a second place finish after running the distance in just 4:14.38.
Daniel Erikson,
Chase Silvia, and
Luke Hart each recorded a top-ten finish with times of 16.23, 17.08, and 20.60 which was good enough for fourth, fifth, and seventh place, respectively. Nearly beating his school record in the 400m dash,
Joshua Backert came through with an impressive 50.01 first place finish before teammate
Joseph Wasson earned himself a fifth place finish with a time of 53.24.
Henry Lonstein was the only Scot to finish in the top-ten as the sprinter came in ninth place after crossing the finish at 11.80.
Jacob Smith ran a brilliant 800m as the transfer just narrowly missed the school record by .82 with his first place finish (1:56.92). Also in the 800m, Wasson collected yet another top-10 finish with a time of 2:05.94. In the 400m hurdles,
Alexander Ferris and Hart booked a one-two finish after finishing the race in 1:00.95 and 1:05.76, respectively. Wrapping up the day on the track in the relays,
Joseph Tibbles,
Henry Lonstein,
Daniel Erikson, and
Alexander Ferris blew past the competition with a time of 44.79 in the 4x100m to take the top spot, while
Jacob Smith,
Joseph Tibbles,
Joshua Backert,
Alexander Ferris, also came in first in the 4x400m with a time of 3:28.72.
In field events,
Steven French came in fifth place in the shot put after throwing a distance of 12.54m. Then,
Justin Mini launched the discus 41.13m which earned the hurler a second place finish.
Caleb Rocconi rounded off the top-ten finishers with a distance of 31.38m coming in tenth place. Heading over to the long jump, Tibbles,
Jacob Couture, and
Elisha Boamah came in third, tenth and eleventh place after jumping 5.88m, 5.17m, and 5.09m, respectively. Ferris was the highest throwing Scot in the javelin with a distance of 46.10m, followed by Tibbles who recorded a throw of 41.17m. Silvia earned a second place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.80m and Tibbles booked 1.47m. Putting a trio of Scots in the top-10 in the triple jump, Backert and Silvia came in sixth (11.87m) and seventh (11.04m), respectively, while Couture came in ninth place (10.34m).
The Fighting Scots head to Connecticut for the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, April 16.
