Scots Control Pride With Dominant Win

MEET RESULTS

Less than 24 hours after the Fighting Scots got out of the pool in a road meet yesterday, Gordon College Women's Swimming hosted the Regis College Pride and the Husson University Eagles at the Bennett Center where the blue and white handed Regis a 155-62 loss, and was edged out by Husson, 109-131. Gordon's win over Regis marks the first time they have defeated the Pride since 2015.

In an extremely tight battle in the 200 yard medley relay, Mia Frazier, Katherine Maloney, Janelle Maxwell, and Grace Haxhinasto combined efforts as the second team to come into the wall (2:00.04). With just one event to rest, Maloney and Haxhinasto returned to the water and completed the 1000 yard freestyle in second and third place, respectively, as Maloney secured her career best time of 12:15.26. Continuing to rack in the top-finishes, Gina Ouellette took just 2:27.42 to swim the 200 yard freestyle while Maxwell finished the 100 yard butterfly in 1:15.70 to book a pair of third place finishes. Rookie Frazier made a splash in the 50 yard backstroke as the freshman took the top spot thanks to a time of 31.27. Adding another first place tally to the afternoon, Ella Schissler blew past the competition (39.51) in the 50 yard breaststroke. In the next two events, Gordon saw another pair of second place finishes as Frazier came in second in the 50 yard freestyle (29.70), while Haxhinasto sported a time of 1:04.22 in the 100 yard freestyle. Schissler and Lily Brooks teamed up to make it a two-three punch in the 100 yard breaststroke as the duo recorded times of 1:27.45 and 1:31.12, respectively. Then, Maloney continued to display her athleticism as the newcomer was the second swimmer to complete the 500 yard freestyle (6:02.05) before taking third in the 100 yard IM (1:12.00). Capping off a successful afternoon at home, Lillyan DeFeo, Ouellette, Schissler, and Lily Brooks earned a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay after putting together a time of 2:05.44.

Next up for the Scots is a home meet on Saturday, January 21 as they host Albertus Magnus at 12 p.m. where the blue and white will celebrate senior day.
