Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

I. Rivera Nets 28 In 96-63 W Over Bison

Gordon College Women's Basketball continued their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win streak this afternoon when they traveled to Dudley, Massachusetts to square up against the Nichols College Bison where the Fighting Scots earned their fourth CCC victory in a row after a dominant 96-63 showing.

Isabella Rivera charged the Scots' offense with a whopping 28 points and 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season, meanwhile, Madison Wynbeek wasn't far behind, chipping in 20 points while grabbing 13 rebounds, followed by Hannah Lomonaco who booked 15 points and 10 rebounds marking her second double-double of the season as well.

For the hosts, Nichols was led by Abrianna Vazquez who put up 20 tallies for the Bison along with Kiera Fernandes who added 14 points.

How It Happened
  • While the Bison were able to net the first basket of the game, the Scots swiftly sprung to a 13-point lead (15-2) at the 5:27 mark, scoring 13 straight points before Nichols was able to find the basket again after Serianna Anderson topped off the scoring spree with one from downtown. Even though the Bison were able to round up a few more points in the remaining minutes, the Fighting Scots completely dominated, ending the first quarter up, 27-13.
  • In the next frame, Sydney Noyes immediately lengthened the Scots' lead to 15 with one from the charity stripe to open up the second quarter. Nichols attempted to close the gap but Gordon held strong to their comfortable lead, eventually going ahead by 16 with 3:48 to go thanks to a pair of free throws from Lomonaco (39-23) before heading into the second half, 45-31.
  • Back from the break, I. Rivera kept her scoring spell going to regain her squad's massive 16-point lead (47-31) less than a minute after the whistle. It wasn't long before a fast break layup from Lomonaco brought the Scots' cushion to 19 before the rookie doubled up with another basket to make the score 59-38 almost halfway through the quarter. But the Fighting Scots didn't stop there, grabbing a 23-point lead after a Naomi Nicholson basket (68-45) with 1:45 left on the clock before eventually ending the third, 72-49.
  • The Scots showed no mercy in the final frame, securing a 33-point lead that they would not relinquish (90-57) thanks to an Anderson three to put the cherry on top with 3:35 ticks on the scoreboard before eventually sealing the commanding win, 96-63.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Both Isabella Rivera and Hannah Lomonaco booked their second double-doubles of the season.
  • Isabella Rivera earned a career-high 28 points in today's win.
  • The Fighting Scots seek revenge this upcoming Tuesday, January 24 when they invite the Seahawks of Salve Regina to their home court for a 5:30 p.m. Conference match-up.
