No. 4 Gordon College Women's Tennis hosted No. 5 Western New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals today at the Brigham Athletic Complex where despite a weather delay midway through the match, the Fighting Scots blanked the visitors by a score of 5 - 0. In accordance with the CCC rule book, postseason contests are play "to decision".
The rookie combination of
Amanda Kim and
Chloe Hanley made quick work of their counterparts in No. 2 doubles, 8 - 0 to give Gordon the first point of the day. No. 1 doubles earned an 8 - 3 win thanks to
Annette Kim and
Serena Ross, while
Abbigail Fournier and
Hannah Hovda made it a clean sweep for the blue and white (8 - 2) at No. 3 doubles.
Just as singles play began, the New England weather had other plans as the match had to be delayed due to rain. Then, once the courts returned to playable conditions, An. Kim picked up right where she left off with a 6 - 0, 6 - 1 victory in No. 1 action. Looking to seal the victory, Ross went straight to work en route to a 6 - 0, 6 - 0 match clinching win to send the Fighting Scots to the next round.Â
The Fighting Scots travel to crosstown rival No. 1 Endicott on Thursday, October 19 at 2 p.m. for the CCC Semifinals.
