Gordon Books Third Place At NAC Championships

CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

Competing in their first North Athletic Conference (NAC) Championship Weekend, Gordon College Women's Swimming traveled up to Cazenovia, New York to battle Cazenovia, Husson, SUNY Delhi, and Maine Maritime this weekend. Husson took the crown with a team score of 582.5, followed by Maine Maritime with 563, Gordon with 404.5, Cazenovia with 191, and SUNY Delhi with 155. 

Day One
  • In the 400 yard medley relay, Mia Frazier, Katherine Maloney, Gina Ouellette, and Janelle Maxwell combined to come in third place (4:42.10).
  • Ouellette and Maxwell made it a two-three punch in the 50 yard butterfly as the sophomore and senior crashed into the wall at 29.47 and 31.20, respectively.
  • Lily Brooks earned fourth place in the 200 yard backstroke after improving her seed time and finishing with a time of 2:30.60.
  • Ella Schissler and teammate Brooks recorded a third and fourth place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke after completing the event in 1:24.49 and 1:28.85, respectively.
  • Maxwell came in fourth in the 100 yard freestyle after the senior sported a time of 1:00.99.
  • Recording their second, second place finish of day one, Katherine Maloney swam the 500 yard freestyle in just 5:34.01. Meanwhile, teammate Grace Haxhinasto followed shortly behind in third (5:56.70).
  • Sophomore Ouellette booked another top-two finish after the two-sport student-athlete (field hockey) was the second swimmer to touch the wall at the 2:35.54 mark in the 200 yard butterfly.
  • Rookie Frazier was two ticks out of first place as the freshman swam the 100 yard IM in 1:09.61.
  • Frazier, Maloney, Haxhinasto, and Maxwell gave the blue and white another third place finish in a relay as the quad earned a time of 1:53.06 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
  •  At the conclusion of day one, the Fighting Scots were in third place with a score of 198. Maine Maritime took the top spot at 311, Husson at 277 (second place), Cazenovia with 98, followed by SUNY Delhi with 69.
Day Two
  • Frazier, Maloney, Ouellette, and Maxwell grabbed a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (2:04.66).
  • Maloney knocked 30 seconds off her seed time in the 1000 yard freestyle as the steady swimmer came in second after her time of 11:45.02.
  • Earning the first, first place finish in Scot NAC Championship history was Ouellette who tied Husson's Rachel Hand in the 100 yard butterfly as both touched the wall at 1:04.30.
  • Collecting another second place finish on the day was Maloney who in the 200 yard freestyle clocked in at 2:09.14. Additionally, Haxhinasto earned fourth place with a time of 2:14.26.
  • Schissler and Brooks swam into the wall in third and fourth thanks to their respective times of, 3:03.63 and 3:09.80.
  • One event later, Schissler tallied another top-four finish as the freshman completed the 50 yard breaststroke in 38.80 (fourth place).
  • Senior Maxwell booked her best individual finish of the weekend as the captain raced her way to a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (27.44).
  • Wrapping up the weekend was Frazier, Maloney, Haxhinasto, and Maxwell who earned the bronze in the 400 yard freestyle relay (4:08.47).

In The Gordon College Women's Swimming Record Books
  • Katherine Maloney is now third in the 500 yard freestyle-5:34.01.
  • Grace Haxhinasto now assumed the 10th place spot in the 500 yard freestyle-5:56.70.
  • Maloney is also now third in the 1000 yard freestyle after previously being in sixth-11:45.02.
  • Gina Ouellette has taken the seventh spot in the 100 yard butterfly-1:04.30.
