Chewning Sets Long Jump Record At UMass Lowell Invitational

MEET RESULTS

Gordon College Men's Track & Field traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts for the UMass Lowell Invitational to open up their Spring outdoor season where the Fighting Scots earned multiple top--10 finishes against the most elite NCAA Division I schools. 

Daniel Chewning not only booked an eighth place finish for the Scots in the long jump event, but he also wrote his name down in the Gordon College record books with a jump of 6.44m marking a new record with his first official collegiate jump. The rookie then one-upped himself, earning sixth in the high jump (1.76). Joshua Backert stayed hot for the Scots in field events as he had the second best jump in the triple jump (12.92m) which was just behind Harvard's Noah Miles. 

In field events, Backert and Henry Lonstein earned fifth and eighth place, respectively in the 200m dash with times of 23.18 and 23.31. Next in the 100m dash, Lonstein came in 12th (11.43) followed by Matthew McCluskey who earned 14th (11.46). Multiple Scots competed in the 110 hurdles, racking up multiple top-finishes as Daniel Erikson was the first Scot to finish with a time of 17.13 (8th) followed by Joseph Tibbles who earned 12th place (19.14) while Luke Hart followed just behind him with a time of 20.30 (14th). Continuing in hurdle events, Erikson earned a seventh place finish in the 400 hurdles after crossing the finish in 1:02.94 while Alexander Ferris was just behind him (1:03.29) coming in eighth followed by Peter McGinn who also slid his way in the top 10 (10th) with a time of 1:08.51. Meanwhile, Cameron Abbot ran his way to another top finish (10th) in the 800 run with a time of 2:06.64 followed by John Sullivan who came in 18th (23.31). 

Lastly, Gordon's famous relay squad comprised of Matthew McCluskey, Joseph Tibbles, Henry Lonstein and Cameron Abbot took fourth place in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:37.01.

The Fighting Scots hit the road again on Saturday, April 1 for the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Massachusetts.
