MEET RESULTS
Gordon College Men's Track and Field ventured to Connecticut over the past two days to compete at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
Senior
Joseph Tibbles competed in the two-day decathlon and after an impressive showing, the veteran's score of 5241(fourth place), not only qualified him for regionals but also put him at 34th in the nation in the decathlon. Tibbles came in second after crossing the line at 11.68 in the 100m dash, and then tossed the shot put 9.99m to secure a third place finish. Then, in yet another second place nod, Tibbles raced through the 400m run in 52.48. In Saturday's events, Tibbles barreled through the 110m hurdles in 18.93 (third place), threw the javelin 44.91m (second place), and ran the 1500m in 4:56.51 (second place).
The 4x100 relay team of
Joshua Backert,
Matthew McCluskey,
Henry Lonstein, and
Daniel Chewning put together a third place finish after a time of 43.38, two places ahead of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Wentworth (43.51). Etching their names in the record books and highlighting the afternoon for the Fighting Scots were
Jacob Smith,
Cameron Abbot,
Colin McGinn, and Backert who completed the 4x800m relay in just 8:12.10 for the top spot. The quad demolished the record that was set just a year ago with a time (8:22.28). Additionally, Backert set the
wind legal* school record in the 200m with a time of 22.84.
The Fighting Scots return to action a week from today as they travel to MIT for the Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
