Scots Grab Silver In CCC Championship Meet

MEET RESULTSĀ | CCC RELEASE

Gordon College Men's Track & Field hosted the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship meet this afternoon where they competed against five Conference schools. While continuing to break multiple records, the Fighting Scots earned a total of 122 points to earn a second place finish, meanwhile, Roger Williams took the top prize with 175 points. The Scots placed ahead of Wentworth (103), Suffolk (95), and Nichols (86).Ā 

Gordon's 4x100 meter relay team comprised ofĀ Henry Lonstein,Ā Joshua Backert,Ā Joseph TibblesĀ andĀ Daniel ChewningĀ got the Scots going with 10 pointsĀ after completing the race in 43.77 to earn the top-spot, just ahead of the Hawks (43.98). Meanwhile, in the 3,000 steeplechase Colin McGinn continued to shine as he rewrote the record books with a time ofĀ 10:03.43 to book a bronze finish.Ā The relay squads continued to dominate, asĀ Jacob Smith,Ā Lonstein,Ā Tibbles andĀ BackertĀ were the first quad to cross the finish in the 4x400m race to earn another first place finish (3:25.68). In the 110 hurdles, Daniel Erikson was the second athlete to complete the event with a time ofĀ 16.79. Backert kept the gold medals rolling in as the junior ran the 400m dash inĀ 49.85 to take the top spot before J. Smith followed behind him in third (51.90). In the 100m dash, Chewning and Lonstein earned third and fifth place with times ofĀ 11.39 andĀ 11.42, respectively. J. Smith earned yet another top-five finish in the 800m run (2:00.47) before TibblesĀ booked a second place finish in the 400m hurdles after crossing the finish atĀ 59.56, while Luke Hart and Alexander Ferris were not far behind earning fourth and fifth place with times ofĀ 1:00.41 andĀ 1:00.66.Ā 

In field events,Ā Jonathan Van Bebber and Justin Mini started the Scots off with a fourth and fifth place finish in the shot put after top throws ofĀ 12.28m andĀ 11.88m, respectively. Meanwhile, Mini launched the discusĀ 38.39m to earn fourth. After catapulting himselfĀ 3.55m, TibblesĀ brought home bronze in the pole vault,Ā just behind Roger Williams. ChewningĀ continued to dominate this afternoon, as the rookie had the third longest jump in the long jump (6.42m).Ā 

Next up for the Fighting Scots is the NCAA Division III New England Championship which begins on Thursday, May 4 through Saturday, May 6 in Springfield, Massachusetts.Ā
