No. 4 Bison Narrowly Escape Scots’ Late Comeback In CCC Tournament

On day two of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoff series, Gordon College Softball returned to Endicott College in Beverly, this time to square up against the No. 4 Nichols College Bison after sending the No. 5 Salve Regina Seahawks home. In today's single elimination game, the Fighting Scots battled for seven innings before barely falling to the higher seed, 1-2.

How It Happened
  • It was a pitchers duel as both squads were only able to get one hit each inning until the bottom of the third when Nichols mustered up back to back singles but the Scots' starting pitcher Mara Little quickly shut them down, forcing a fly-out to short to hold the game scoreless heading into the fourth. In the next inning, the Bison were able to put a run up on the board after capitalizing off of two hits to take the initial 1-0 edge. Meanwhile, Nichols kept the Scots off the bases in the fifth before doubling their score to two in the home half of the inning after stringing together two hits. However, with bases loaded the Fighting Scots shut the Bison down before they could tack on any more runs.
  • The Scots attempted to close the gap in the sixth as Emily Peterson led off her squad with a hit up the middle, eventually getting to third but the Scots were unable to bring her home, keeping the score at 0-2. Meanwhile, relief pitcher Brooke Husson sat down three of the four batters she faced to keep her team at a two-run deficit. In their last chance to score, Hannah Bouvier led off the Scots with a single before she advanced to scoring position thanks to heads up base running. The next batter up, Abby Murray roped a single to left to put runners at first and third before stealing second. Emily Graham kept the hitting spree going as the rookie singled to second base to bring home Bouvier and bring the Scots within one (1-2). The Fighting Scots continued to be smart at the plate, eventually juicing up the bases, however they were unable to cross the plate, taking the narrow 1-2 loss.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots graduate senior starting pitcher, Mara Little.
  • Gordon ends their season with an overall record of 19-24 (7-11 CCC).
