Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 3 Scots Upset No. 2 UNE To Advance To The CNE Championship

The No. 3 seeded Gordon College Women's Soccer Team traveled up to Biddeford, Maine to face the No. 2 seed University of New England Nor'easters on Barbara J. Hazard Field for the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals. Despite the Nor'easters scoring first, the Fighting Scots did not back down, scoring three unanswered to advance to the CNE Championship game.

How It Happened

  • After a quick shot attempt from the blue and white in the opening minute, the Nor'easters immediately countered and raced down the field to find themselves on top, 1-0.
  • With six minutes left on the clock in the first half Ada Forbes stormed down the left side of the field before being fouled in the box resulting in a Gordon penalty kick. Teammate Ava Forbes-Smith stepped up to the line and netted the equalizer to make it a 1-1 game going into halftime.
  • Looking to pull ahead, Forbes-Smith found teammate Eowyn Lapp who ripped in a shot past the UNE keeper to take the 2-1 edge just six minutes into the second half.
  • Gordon keeper Emily Bengtson was unstoppable to keep the powerful Nor'easters off the board. The junior made an incredible diving save with 17 minutes to go in regulation before thwarting another UNE shot attempt five minutes later to keep the scoreboard at 2-1 in favor of the Scots.
  • Not comfortable with the one-goal lead, Gordon continued to battle until the final whistle. Lapp netted her second of the day after her usual crafty ball handling before the sophomore bolted a shot into the side netting (3-1) with 11 minutes remaining.
  • The Scots held on strong down the stretch to earn the upset victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots will travel to Connecticut on Saturday, November 9 to take on the No. 1 seed University of Hartford.
  • In four of the last six games, Eowyn Lapp has recorded two or more goals in each game.
  • Ava Forbes-Smith is 2-2 on penalty kicks this season.
  • This marks the first time since 2021 that the Fighting Scots have made it to the Conference Championship.
