Gordon Places Third In METS Championships

The Gordon College Women's Swim Team finished in third place at the 2024 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Championships (METS) this weekend. The three-day Championship concluded Sunday evening at the Rutgers University Werblin Aquatic Center in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Metro Collegiate Championship meet served as the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, which will be scored separately with results announced this week.

Overall the Fighting Scots scored 567 points, while the Husson University Eagles took the crown with a score of 814, followed by the Maine Maritime booked 771.5 points. 

By The Numbers
  • Katherine Maloney notched a fifth place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.22.
  • Gina Ouellette came in 12th place in the 200 IM (2:40.40).
  • In the 50 yard freestyle M.Kay Farkas and Isabella Gadouas booked back-to-back finishes after crashing into the wall at the 27.43 and 27.66 mark, respectively.
  • The Scots dominated in the 400 yard IM as Maloney earned fourth (5:04.13), Arwen Hefner secured sixth (5:34.05), and Lily Brooks came in seventh (5:34.48).
  • Ouellette's time of 1:05.56 in the 100 yard butterfly earned the sophomore a ninth place spot. 
  • Ella Schissler recorded a 16th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke after a time of 1:24.86.
  • The 800 yard freestyle relay team, teamed up to come in sixth place with a time of 9:06.07, just two seconds behind the Mariners.
  • Senior, Maloney controlled the pace in the 1650 yard freestyle (19:33.93) to take fourth place. Teammate Grace Haxhinasto came in 11th place after posting a time of 21:05.13.
  • In the 200 yard backstroke, Brooks was the 14th swimmer to touch the wall, after hitting the wall at the 2:30.84 mark.
  • Farkas and Gadouas once again secured back-to-back finishes but this time in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.56, 1:01.26).
  • Hefner and Schissler were the top swimmers for the blue and white after coming in 12th and 16th place, respectively (2:58.51), 3:07.06) in the 200 yard breaststroke.
  • Wrapping up the individual events in the 200 yard butterfly were Ouellette and Hefner whose seventh and 10th place finishes were completed in 2:35.77 and 2:56.93, respectively.
This marks the second year of membership in the NAC for the Fighting Scots.
