No. 7 Scots Nearly Upset No. 2 Nor'easters In CCC Quarterfinals

The No. 7-seeded Gordon College Fighting Scots traveled up to Biddeford, Maine this evening for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal contest against the No. 2-ranked U. of New England (UNE) Nor'easters. The Fighting Scots battled and nearly knocked off the No. 2 squad, but the home team was able to survive, 78-64.

For the Fighting Scots, Ami Rivera had 22 points and five boards, Isabella Rivera added 12 points, and Sydney Noyes added 11 points and six rebounds.

UNE's Jordyn Franzen booked 25 points and 10 rebounds and Kaylee Beyor chipped in 17 points and six rebounds.

How It Happened
  • I. Rivera knocked down a jumper as the Fighting Scots drew first blood and held the upper hand to outscore the No.2 Nor'easters 24-20 after the first quarter.
  • UNE trailed the entire time until there were two minutes left before halftime to take their first lead of the game (31-30). However, Naomi Nicholson answered right back with a shot from behind the arc followed by an I. Rivera jumper to go ahead 35-31 at the break.
  • After a UNE layup to kick off the third, Cheyann Tooman retaliated on the other end to maintain the four-point cushion for the blue and white. Gordon continued to hold the Nor'easters at an arm's length until the home team knotted up the score before pulling ahead to go on top by eight heading into the fourth (54-46).
  • A. Rivera sank a jumper from the elbow to cut the deficit to three, but the No. 2 Nor'easters maintained their lead to secure the win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Isabella Rivera has scored in double-digits for five straight games, while Ami Rivera and Sydney Noyes each have reached that threshold in the last four games.
  • The Scots graduate Sydney Noyes and Cheyann Tooman.
  • This marks the eigth straight year GCWB has made a CCC Tournament appearance after a 13 year abscense.
