Gordon Claims Third Place At CCC Championships

The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships kicked off on Thursday, April 25 at Gordon College and concluded this afternoon at Portsmouth High School (hosted by Roger Williams). The Fighting Scots secured a third place finish with a team score of 85. The Roger Williams Hawks took the crown (252), Wentworth came in second (117), Nichols in fourth (70), and Suffolk rounded out the teams in fifth (32).

By The Numbers (Track Events)
  • In the 4x100m, Henry Lonstein, Daniel Chewning, Keenan Jones, and Matthew McCluskey were just edged out as the quad came in second after crossing the finish line at the 43.74.
  • Josef Schultz's time of 4:10.76 earned himself a fifth place finish in the 1500m run.
  • Lonstein blew past his competitors in the 100m dash (11.42) to complete the sprint .12 ahead of the second place finisher. Chewning followed suit in sixth place as the timer read 11.58.
  • Jesse Comanda and Jacob Smith earned fourth and sixth place finishes in the 800m, respectively with times of 1:55.38 and 1:57.27. Comanda's time was just .03 off of the school record which Smith holds.
  • Peter McGinn came in a second place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.68, just .38 off of the first place runner. McGinn's time puts him in the Gordon record books.
  • In the 4x400m relay, Smith, Lonstein, McGinn, and Comanda finished strung together a first place finish after crossing the finish line at the 3:25.47 mark.

  • Chewning claimed second in long jump after jumping a distance of 6.27m.
  • Davi Butkowsky shined in the hammer throw as the junior had the second best throw (32.87m).
  • In the discus throw, Noah Prince recorded the fourth best throw with a distance of 34.02m.
  • Chewning returned to action in the triple jump and secured third place with his jump of 11.95m.
  • Butkowsky booked a top-five finish in the shot put after a throw of 11.40m.
Next up for the Fighting Scots is the NCAA DIII New England Championships next weekend.
