The Gordon College Fighting Scots women's golf team opened their second season in competition on Saturday at Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, MA, with a promising performance. Hosted by Westfield State University, with Suffolk, Keene State, and Nichols in attendance, the match saw the Scots show significant improvement before a sudden storm abruptly halted play late in the match.
Senior captain
Katherine Maloney led the team with a score of 93, showcasing her leadership and consistent growth. Senior
Mariah Wells had a strong match, shooting a 98 through the 16th hole with two holes remaining. Sophomore
Caroline Johnson shot a 117, and freshman
Elizabeth Parent made her NCAA debut with a solid 109.
Olivia Miller, another sophomore, was three holes away from finishing when the storm hit.
The Scots were on track to achieve their best team score, a significant improvement from last season. They were projected to finish the day at least 35 strokes under their lowest score from last season, a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Despite the early stoppage, the Fighting Scots are off to a strong start and will look to continue their momentum at the Hartford Hawks Invitational next week, September 21-22, in Bloomfield, CT.
