Gordon College Women's Basketball took on the Suffolk Rams on their home court in Boston, Mass. Tuesday night. The Fighting Scots got off to a hot start and did not let up, taking a 78-61 over the Rams.
For the Scots,
Ami Rivera scored 16 points while bringing six rebounds,
Woynitu Ciccarello hit 14 points with 5 rebounds, and
Sophie Peters recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Sami Monighetti added another 11 points while going three for four from beyond the arc.
Rams'
Colby Guinta put up 19 points and six rebounds,
Maddie Stewart hit 13 points, while
Oliva Verdile scored eigh points
How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots scored 14 straight points without allowing a score after the Rams hit their first shot of the game. During this run, Naomi Nicholson converted a layup and made a quick steal directly after leading to a Rivera jumper. The Scots ended the first red hot shooting 52.9% from field and generating seven assists. They held a 21-9 lead over the Rams heading into the second quarter.
- Prolific passing continued for the Scots as Rivera found Jayme Kiser along the baseline for a jumper. Later in the quarter, Ciccarrelo grabbed an offensive rebound and hit Monighetti for a corner three. The Scots out rebounded the Rams 31-19 and recorded 10 more assists than the Rams in the first half. The Scots efforts led to a 37-15 point lead.
- The Scots didn't miss a beat going into the second half as Rivera whipped a pass to a wide open Nicholson for a corner three. A few possessions later Peters cut into the paint and finished strong against a fouling Rams defender. The Rams started to gain momentum until Monighetti drained a three off a Nicholson pass generating a Scots 7-1 point run to end the third (63-37).
- With a comfortable lead, the Scots looked to close out the Rams in the fourth. Peters backed down a Rams defender in the low post putting up an easy two. The Rams made a last effort to reach the summit of their deficit, but the Scots proved to be too much. Gordon took a dominant 78-61 win over the Rams.
