Multiple Records Drop In Third Place Finish At Metropolitan Collegiate Championships

The Gordon College Men's Swim Team finished in third place at the 2025 Metropolitan Collegiate Championships this past weekend in New Jersey. The Fighting Scots totaled 697 points to take third place out of eight teams.

Friday, February 14

  • The Scots strongly took on their first event of the Championship as Daniel Mota, Major Adair, Theo Dietrich, and James Branaugh got on top of their own 200 freestyle record by two seconds with a time of 1:27.34.
  • Moments later, rookie Theo Dietrich broke a record for the first time in over ten years in the 200 IM, conquering the previous record by over six seconds with a time of 1:53.58. This record put Theo in second place in the final. 
  • Breaking more records, James Brananugh crushed his own record in the 50 freestyle taking six tenths of a second off of his prior record with a time of 21.60. This new record put James on top of 22 other swimmers in the final. 
  • Later on, Dietrich, Branaugh, Adair, and Mota brought the Scots into third place in the 400 yard medley relay.
  • Ending the first day of finals, Dietrich added another accomplishment to his cap to break the 100 yard backstroke record by one second with a time of 53.35.
  • After day one, the Gordon College Men's Swim Team was in third place with a total of 257 points.
Saturday, February 15
  • New records were being set right as the second day of the Championship began. Theo Dietrich, James Branaugh, Major Adair, and Danny Mota were able to clinch a new record and grab onto second place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.45. 
  • Moments later, Theo Dietrich was able to take hold of a new record and make himself the champion of the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:04.27.
  • John Sullivan used a time of 4:44.29 to claim fourth in the 400 yard IM.
  • Down the line, Branaugh swam his way ahead of twelve other swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.76.
  • Dietrich was able to shatter another new record in the 50 back with a time of 23.90. 
  • After day two, the Gordon College Men's Swim Team was in third place with a total of 497 points. 
Sunday, February 16
  • Dietrich continued to roll on the final day of the championship meet, taking the crown in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.18 for yet another school record. 
  • The relay team of Mota, Adair, Dietrich, and Branaugh teamed up for a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.31. The quad's time broke a ten year old record by four seconds.
