Women’s Basketball Edged at Curry in Road Finale, 63-58

MILTON, Mass.- The Gordon College women's basketball team absorbed a 63-58 loss at Curry Tuesday evening in the final road contest of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Curry started the game with a 13-0 run and owned an 18-9 lead after the first quarter.
  • Gordon trimmed the gap to 24-22 with 1:03 remaining in the second frame as Sami Monighetti (Las Vegas, Nev.) splashed a trey.
  • The Colonels chalked up two free throws late in the second period to boast a 26-22 halftime advantage.
  • The Fighting Scots captured their first lead of the game as they began the third with nine unanswered points, 31-26.
  • The home side narrowly outscored the visitors 19-17 in the third quarter to hold a 45-39 lead.
  • Gordon scored 19 points in the fourth frame while Curry tallied 18 points to secure a five-point victory
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Woynitu Ciccarello (East Haddam, Conn.) led all scorers with 20 points.
  • Leah McGarvey (Harrisburg, Pa.) notched 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
  • Sophie Peters (Sidney, Mont.) finished with 13 boards, four points, and four assists.
  • Isabella Rivera (Concord, N.H.) chipped in with six points each.
  • Gordon shot 39.6% from the floor and drained 4-of-21 from three-point distance.
  • Curry concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 33.9%.
  • Lauren Dunn paced the Colonels with 17 points while Sophie Hilbrunner recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
LOOKING AHEAD:
Gordon wraps up the season February 21 at home against Suffolk on Senior Day.
