Softball Sweeps Series at Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.- The Gordon College softball team claimed a pair of victories at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Friday, prevailing 6-4 and 12-7.
 

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 6, Mass. Maritime 4
Records: Fighting Scots (5-8) | Buccaneers (4-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mass. Maritime tallied one run in the bottom of the first inning to snag a 1-0 edge.
  • Gordon got on the board in the top of the fourth, tallying two runs to seize a 2-1 lead.
  • The Buccaneers manufactured two runs in the bottom of the frame to reclaim a one-run advantage, 3-2.
  • The Fighting Scots scored twice in the sixth inning to grab a 4-3 edge.
  • Mass. Maritime plated one run in the home half of the sixth to level the contest at 4-4.
  • Gordon rallied in the top of the seventh to chalk up two runs to regain the lead, 6-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Isabella Rivera (Concord, N.H.) notched three bases knocks, including her first home run of the season.
  • Emily Graham (Amesbury, Mass.) posted two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.
  • Emilie Adelmann (Upland Calif.) added a pair of hits.
  • Samantha Perkins (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
  • Emilie Adelmann (Upland, Calif.) pitched five innings before Emily Graham (Amesbury, Mass.) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
 
GAME TWO
THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 12, Mass. Maritime 7
Records: Fighting Scots (6-8) | Buccaneers (4-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gordon scored twice in the top of the first to establish an early 2-0 lead.
  • Mass. Maritime answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to slash the deficit to 2-1.
  • The visitors tacked on a run in the second inning to reclaim a two-run advantage, 3-1.
  • The Buccaneers plated one run in the fourth to trim the gap to 3-2.
  • Gordon rattled off four runs in the top of the fifth inning to stretch its lead to 7-2.
  • Mass. Maritime responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull to within two, 7-5.
  • Both squads produced a run in the sixth as the Fighting Scots clung to a two-run advantage, 8-6.
  • Gordon manufactured four runs in the top of the seventh inning to widen the margin to 12-6.
  • Mass. Maritime managed one run in the final half inning as the Fighting Scots secured the doubleheader sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Avie Hernandez (Draper, Utah) drove in four RBIs, landed three hits, and scored a run.
  • Samantha Perkins (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted two base knocks, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • Emily Hutchins (Kennebunkport, Maine) finished with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • Makayla Falco (Warwick, R.I.) chipped in with two hits, one RBI, and a run scored.
  • Katie Melendy (Easton, Mass.) threw four innings and fanned two batters. Emily Graham (Amesbury, Mass.) pitched three frames and registered four strikeouts en route to picking up her first save of the year.
