During her undergraduate time at Gordon, she created the Rowing Club and competed in the single for Gordon, medaling at Dad Vail and Knecht Cup.
Since 2018, she has grown the program into a New England small boats powerhouse, sending athletes to the USA Uni-Games team as well as taking home several top finishes at USRowing Summer Nationals, ACRA National Championships, Jefferson Dad Vail, and Knecht Cup in both Men’s and Women’s doubles, singles, quads, pairs, and fours. In 2021, the Scots joined the IRA as the only current D3 Lightweight Varsity program for Men and Women in the United States, and have qualified crews every year since for the prestigious IRA National Championships. The Scots have also repeated qualifying finishes at the Head of the Charles since 2022 in the Women’s Varsity Collegiate 4+.
In 2019, Hopkins added PR3 competition to the boathouse, and has been developing a model of varsity collegiate rowing for athletes with disabilities here at Gordon ever since.
In 2023, Hopkins became the Head Coach for Women’s Rowing for the United States University Games Team, and assistant coached for the Men’s team for the 2023 World Uni Games in Chengdu, China. The Women took home a gold medal in the 4+, a silver in the 2x, and a bronze in the 2- at the USRowing Summer National Champs before heading overseas to compete against several National Team crews at the games.
Under her leadership, Gordon took home it’s first National Title in the Openweight Women’s 2x at the 2023 ACRA Championships, followed a month later by a win for Hopkins’ UNI-USA crew at the Summer National Championships in the Women’s Varsity 4+.
Maddie Hopkins is a USRowing Level 2 Certified Rowing Coach and holds an Adaptive Coaching Certificate from USRowing.
