Carter Shaw

Carter Shaw was hired in the summer of 2016 as the sixth head coach of Gordon women's basketball since it began competing in the NCAA during the 1988-89 season.

Notable Achievements 

  • In his first year with the program, Shaw led the Fighting Scots to their first Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament appearance in 13 seasons.
  • The Scots' 2019-2020 season was a program best in over 15 years. 
  • In February 2022, the Scots secured their first CCC Tournament victory on the road against Suffolk.
  • GCWB hosted their first playoff game in the Carter Shaw era in 2023.


Before Gordon 

  • Shaw came to Gordon after spending the previous two years as head coach at NCAA Division II California State University, Los Angeles. His Golden Eagles posted double-digit win marks in both seasons and a CCAA tournament appearance during his short time in Los Angeles.
  • Before taking over at Cal State LA in 2014, Shaw spent 16 years as a Division I assistant coach which included stops at UC Riverside, Colgate University, Ball State University, UC Santa Barbara, and Colorado State University. He got his start in collegiate coaching as an assistant at his alma mater, the University of Utah. 
  • In 16 years as an NCAA Division I assistant coach, Shaw has been part of nine regular-season championships, seven conference tournament titles, twelve post-season tournaments, including nine trips to the NCAA Tournament. His most recent NCAA experience was as Defensive Coordinator for Ball State University’s upset of Tennessee, the defending national champion, in a first-round game.
