Caleb Cole has been named Gordon Athlete of the Week after knocking in three first-half goals in a 6-2 win at Curry College on Friday. The Fighting Scots went 2-0 on the week and outscorred Curry and Mitchell College by a combined total of 14-3. His performance also earned him Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, the first time he's earned that honor this year.Â
Cole played the part of facilitator in the week's opening game, distributing the ball out wide to set up goal opportunities in the 8-1 win against Curry. The Fighting Scots broke a tough two-game losing streak in the process of handing the Mariners their worst loss of the season. On Friday, Cole took over the scoring role and outscored the Colonels himself in the first half. Cole's first score came just six minutes into the contest on a feed from Evan Crocker (Akron, Ohio). Curry tied it only a few minutes later, but Cole's strike in the 20th minute gave the Scots a lead they would never relinquish. After Nathan Bilbie (Shrewsbury, Pa.) scored in the 22nd minute to make it 3-1, Cole added his third of the game in the 33rd minute for the 4-1 halftime lead with an assist by Aaron Terjanian (West Chester, Pa.).
Cole now leads the conference in goals with eight and is second in points with 17, only behind Andrew Nelson of Eastern Nazarene. The Fighting Scots and Lions meet on the Brigham turf on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.Â
