Sophomore defender Ben Gradert (Hudson, Ohio) has been named the Gordon Athlete of the Week after winning Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Gradert became one of the Fighting Scots most unheralded players during his sophomore season after shifting from the midfield to the last line of defense. Gordon surrendered only 12 goals in 16 games this season, while posting six shutouts. Gradert was relied upon to clean up messes in the defensive third and adjusted well to his role on a defense that finishes as the second best in the CCC. 

The Fighting Scots have outscored their opponents 5-1 during the first two rounds of the CCC tournament, including a shutout of No. 2 Western New England on Tuesday.
