Rookie swimmer
Joshua Florez (Fr./West Hartford, Conn.) has been named Gordon's Athlete of the Week after earning three All-New England nods and breaking several school records at the New England Collegiate Championship Feb. 8-10.
On opening day of the Championship, Florez overtook the school mark in the 50 breast preliminaries with a 28.30 only to reset the mark again on his second effort of the day with an All-New England 28.20. He also teamed with
Cameron Schofield (Fr./Middleboro, Mass.),
Austin Drukker (So./Bedford, N.H.), and
Brett Johnson (So./Easton, Mass.) to break the Gordon record in the 400 medley relay with a 3:48.75.
After weather forced Saturday's preliminary events to be canceled, Florez took to the lanes in the afternoon to break Gordon's 100 breast record with a 5
th place, All-New England finish of 59.89. On the final day of competition, he registered his most successful result of the weekend, breaking the 200 breast record in the preliminaries before recording an All-New England 2
nd place finish (2:10.08) in the same event later in the day. He then closed the Championship by joining Schofield, Drukker, and Johnson to break the 200 medley relay mark with a 1:43.38.
As a team the Scots earned 10 All-England honors and broke 20 Gordon records on the weekend.
