Hosting the Gulls of Endicott College today in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel, the Fighting Scots were downed by their guests, 4-1, to move to 7-8 overall (2-3 in conference) on the year.
The Gulls claimed the momentum early into the game when Melissa Enright (Jr./York Beach, Maine) netted her first of three on the day just two minutes into the period on an assist from Taylor Matties (Jr./Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). After several other quality scoring opportunities, Enright bookended the half by tallying her second on a solo effort with less than two minutes to play before the break.
Having put only three shots on frame during the first stanza, the Scots came out with stronger offensive resolve in the second, resolve that translated into a goal in the 51st minute when Clara Baker (Sr./Underhill, Vt.) tipped in a Karli Balmer (Fr./Perkasie, Pa.) shot to close the gap to 2-1.
That would be as close as Gordon would get, however, as Endicott's Elizabeth LeClair (Fr./Wilton, Maine) scored eight minutes later on a Mackenzie Hurst (Fr./Gilford, N.H.) pass and Enright converted a penalty stroke in the 68th minute to complete the hat trick and secure the three-goal win.
Keeper Taylor Teixeira (Jr./Exeter, N.H.) posted seven saves in the winning effort for the Gulls, while Anna Bury (So./Huntongtown, Md.) had a busy day in net for Gordon, turning away 18 shots in the loss.
The Scots look to get back on the winning track as they host Nichols in a CCC tilt on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00p.m. The Gulls, now 5-7 overall (4-1 in conference), travel to face non-conference Bridgewater State on Thursday, October 13 at 7:00p.m.
