Box Score
Playing host to the Owls of Keene State today in a non-conference match on Gordon's Quad, the Fighting Scots were bested by their guests, 4-2, to move to move 4-6-3 overall on the season.
With Keene controlling most of the possession in the early going, it took just eight minutes before Danny Silverman (Jr./Maynard, Mass.) finished a ball from Mike Jacome (Jr./Narragansett, R.I.) to give the Owls the 1-0 lead. Continuing that offensive pressure throughout the first, Keene struck again in the 35th minute when Silverman dished to Scott Douglas (So./East Greenwich, R.I.), who buried one past Gordon keeper
Spencer Lord (Sr./North Stonington, Conn.) to establish a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Gordon would inch closer in the 61st minute when
Luke Partain (Jr./Wheaton, Ill.) polished off an
Evan Crocker (Fr./Akron, Ohio) assist to make it a one-goal game. With both teams applying heavy offensive pressure, it was Keene who struck again in the 69th minute when Eric Martens (Sr./Peterborough, N.H.) scored from Cam Blair (Sr./Keene, N.H.) to extend the Owls' lead to 3-1. Not going down without a fight, Gordon would score just 54 seconds later after a shot by
Micah Linn (Sr./Germantown, Tenn.) deflected off a Keene defender into his own goal to once again make it a one-goal game.
That would be as close as the Scots would get, however, as Michael Jacques (Fr./Tolland, Conn.) netted the fourth and final goal for Keene on the day to secure the 4-2 win.
Lord was busy between the pipes for Gordon, turning away 11 in the losing effort, while Keene keeper Malcolm Cheney (So./Hopkinton, Mass.) posted six saves in the win.
The Scots travel to face Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, October 15 at 1:30p.m., while the Owls, now 6-6-1 overall on the season, face Rhode Island College on Thursday, October 13 at 1:00p.m.
