Scots Edged In Five By CCC Rival ENC

On the road in Quincy, Mass. to face Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Eastern Nazarene tonight, the Scots battled but fell in five to the host Lions to move to 12-11 overall, 1-6 in conference play on the season. With the win Eastern Nazarene improves to 8-15 overall, 2-5 in the CCC.

Facing a sweep loss after dropping the two opening sets, 22-25, 12-25, the Scots rallied back to capture a narrow 26-24 win and keep the match alive. Riding that momentum into the following set, the Scots posted a command performance in the fourth, going on the offensive to put down their host, 25-14, and force the decisive fifth set. In the end, however, their rally effort came up just short, as the Lions claimed a hard-fought 15-12 win in the final frame to earn the 3-2 victory.

Claudia Amado (Sr./Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Scots' effort with 16 kills and 12 digs, while Lauren Kranyak (So./Locust Grove, Va.) contributed 13 kills, 12 digs, and four aces and Keri Hustus (Jr./Eastford, Conn.) was active on defense with 19 digs.

The Scots travel for the Hall of Fame Invitational this weekend hosted by Mt. Holyoke and Smith, taking on Mt. Holyoke on Friday evening at 5:00p.m. and Bowdoin and Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday at 10:00a.m. and 2:00p.m., respectively. Eastern Nazarene is set to host non-conference Emmanuel on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00p.m.
